About Dean D’Gama

Hi, I’m Dean D’Gama and I’d like to share with you a little bit about myself and how I got to creating The D’Gamas as a luxe homestay.

I returned to my Goan roots in 2002 with the intention of restoring my family home in Assagao village, Goa. Little did I know that this would be the beginning of a long journey, culminating in the realization of my long-harboured dreams.

Initially I really struggled with the local language and with adapting to the Goan schedule where getting things done meant endless waiting. So I simply decided to quite literally take matters into my own hands. I began multi-tasking, taking on tasks that would otherwise have been outsourced to an electrician, plumber and a carpenter. The results are there for all to see; a beautifully cozy homestay that boasts of minute attention to detail, all of it created without the help of either interior designers or professional interior decorators.

Perhaps I was able to pull this off as a result of years of dreaming about just such a project while working on oil rigs around the world. I’ve got a Master’s degree in Geology, and have spent more than a decade working in the lucrative but monotonous oil industry. But during all those years I really itched to start something of my own back home. Of course, I considered my family home as the best place to begin. I finally got to scratch that itch courtesy a global recession and the subsequent retrenchment. I guess losing my job made me gain so much more.

This homestay, though, is not the first business that I’ve successfully got off the ground. In the past I’ve teamed up with like-minded people and set up a variety of businesses that are still quite productive and running smoothly under my former business partners because we co-founded them with one focus in mind: customer satisfaction.

I am happy to share that my most recent venture is getting rave reviews; called Hound Abode, Jessica Braganza and I set up this doggie homestay, which is totally committed to customer satisfaction, transparency and most of all, happy pets.

I’m also intensely passionate about motorcycles and love riding my Harley Davidson Iron 883 all over the country. Serving as a Goa chapter officer for the HOG (Harley Owners Group) has led me to meet people of different back grounds, many of them with interesting ideas.

It will come as no surprise to those who know me that this luxe homestay I have launched, manages to combine all of these things that I hold dear:

  • Meticulous attention to detail has gone into taking care of all the finer points of what guests could possibly dream of in a homestay.
  • My love for pets means the homestay is geared to be exceedingly pet friendly.
  • My passion for automobiles has led to special arrangements that road trippers who travel by car and on bikes, will definitely appreciate.
  • I support social causes close to my heart, such as The Bicycle Project, a charity initiative that donates bicycles to tribal school kids in villages. Which is why  100% of the proceeds from the bicycle rentals at the homestay will go straight to that cause.
  • And having a head for business means I’ve put together exciting deals that will please even the most fastidious of spenders.

I’d like to extend a warm welcome to my luxe homestay and hope that my labour of love will ensure your vacation is a comfortable, safe and enjoyable one.

Feel free to reach out to me with any queries you may have, and I’ll be happy to connect with you and respond to all of them.

Thank you for visiting this blog and I do hope to see you for real at The D’Gamas!
